The school was founded in 1945 and given the name of Wladyslaw Zelenski, Polish composer, in 1979.
Since its very beginnings the school became an important part of the Krakow's music life and holds this position till nowadays. Every year, the school offers musical education to 320-340 students of Krakow secondary schools in three departments: Instrumental, Department of Eurythmics and Vocal. They study under the supervision of ca. 100 teachers, many of them are members of the faculty of the Krakow Academy of Music.

 

Among graduates of the school are famous Polish musicians, including composers Krzysztof Penderecki or Marek Stachowski, conductors Ewa Michnik, Antoni Wit, Jerzy Salwarowski, instrumentalists Ewa Bukojemska, Andrzej Kurylewicz, Bartosz Koziak, Tomasz Stańko or vocalists Ewa Demarczyk, Tomasz Kuk, Helena Lazarska or Zbigniew Wodecki.

 

The students have individual lessons with their professors and theoretical classes in groups. Moreover, they are members of several ensembles, including The Krakow Chamber Orchestra (conducted by Stanislaw Krawczynski, former rector of the Krakow Academy of Music), The Pro Musica Choir and various chamber groups. The ensembles recorded several CDs and participated in numerous venous in Poland andabroad Denmark,Germany, Sweden, Ukraine, Norway, United States and most recently - Israel.

 

The school is based in the heart of the Krakow historical city centre. Since the completion of a new concert hall and purchase of new Steinway & Sons Concert Grand Piano in 2006 the school has been also an important concert centre.
